So-called omnidirectional sound (of course here we are talking only about 360 degrees within a two-dimesional plane) is framed in the concept of emulating the microphone. This makes no sense to me, since it, firstly , fails to emulate the microphone....

Collin,I would suggest that you abandon the idea of placing your speakers against the back wall with that reflecting/diffracting angle in front of the speaker(s). Such a structural intrusion would not be kind to the polar radiation pattern ...
